CITY IN CONCERT

I realized for the first time this Friday, how much work it takes for the City of Eureka to put on ‘Concerts on Central’:  People are needed to block off the streets; put up signs; install the concert stage; put out trash cans; bring in and set-up portable restrooms; keep order and everyone safe, then tear it all down; clean the streets; pick up the trash. This all happens in a 7 hour period!  It takes a lot of people, great organization, time, and money to make it all happen.  The event keeps growing and the streets are packed.

The Concert Night is not just a positive for the Old Town Merchants on Central, but is great for the entire City of Eureka. It’s an event that is becoming a “homecoming” for people who went to school or use to live in Eureka. It’s a time to see old friends that you haven’t seen for a while and meet their grandkids (and maybe even their great grandkids).  Residents from other communities are hearing about the Concert on Central and coming to Old Town Eureka for the first time. It’s a place where mom, dad, the kids, grandma and grandpa can all come together and enjoy the evening. The people who attend this event also should receive some praise. They are friendly, considerate and well behaved.

So thanks to the City of Eureka, Parks and Recreation, Police and Fire Departments, and everyone who attend for help making this event a huge success in many ways for those of us who are proud to call Eureka our home.
