Come On...You Can Sweat!!!

Challenge yourself this week: If you work in an office, think about how much movement you CAN do even though you are sitting most of the day.

Do you ever think about your lifestyle? How many times a week do you work up a sweat?

Think about our ancestors. They worked their tooshies off daily to hunt food, prepare food, prepare shelter, etc. It's crazy for me to think of how easy we have it, and this "easy" mentality has started turning our society into a very obese and unhealthy society.

I recently learned that in the early 1900s, 90 percent of Americans were farmers. This meant they were burning thousands of calories a day and consuming twice as much as our daily caloric intake today! These folks worked hard and because of this, only a VERY small percentage of the country was obese.

Today, more than 80 percent of Americans work in an office and ONLY burn around 250 calories a day sitting in the office. HOLY COW! It is VERY easy to take in more calories that what you are burning when you can't run around plowing fields.

Here's my challenge for you this week. If you do work in an office, think about how much movement you CAN do even though you are sitting most of the day.

  • Get up and walk around, OFTEN!
  • Take a 10 minute break to do 25 Jumping Jacks, 10 Squats, 20 Lunges twice daily.

Yes, you may feel funny but you WILL feel so much better after getting your blood pumping. Our bodies were made to sweat so even if you are stuck in an office for 8 hours, YOU CAN SWEAT!
