Kelsey Shea for MLB Fan Cave—Only Two Days of Voting Left

Help a native Wildwoodian achieve her baseball dream job in the MLB Fan Cave! Come on, Cardinal Nation.

Two more days to vote me into the MLB Fan Cave! We’re in the homestretch, ladies and gentleman. Truly rounding third.

I simply cannot believe all I have been through since that phone call on the 6th…Just two meager weeks ago, I was sitting on my couch, wondering what to do with my life and now I’m preparing to possibly interview my beloved Cardinals. This experience has changed the way I think and feel about everything, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

But it’s not over yet. Therefore, I would like to make one last plea as to why I should be chosen. Or rather, first, as to why a Cardinals fan should be chosen for the MLB Fan Cave.

I know that it’s hard to understand for anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand, but Cardinals fans really are different from any other.  And I’m not exactly sure how to explain it…I think a recent article may have put it best. BFIB indeed.

We’re a very emotional group. We get attached to our players in a way that I haven’t witnessed with other teams, which is why we took it so hard when Albert left. We were insulted. (“Everyone wants to play for us! What happened?”) But then again, we try and rationalize everything because it’s simply impossible for us not to have faith.

Much like our players are known to be, we’re scrappy and lovable. We may even be underdogs in life, but we kind of like it that way. And yes, we hate the Cubs, but we wouldn’t ignore a Cubs fan on the street as they might do to us. (We just curse them silently in our heads.) Perhaps it’s not the best survival method in the professional baseball world, but we love it. And we love us.

And this year it would be particularly interesting to chronicle the tale of a Cardinals fan, on the brink of a new era in the club’s history…That in mind, here’s why I think you should pick this Cardinals fan.

I’ve been saying all week that I’m passionate about baseball, and I’m a performer and a writer…yada, yada. (Or instead, perhaps “yadi, yadi” – yes, I went there.) But what I realized recently, is that it all boils down to the fact that I think I am the perfect representative of Cardinal Nation. I’m the veritable utility player because of all those things. But furthermore, I cry when we win a postseason game, I simultaneously hate and can’t hold a grudge against Albert Pujols, and I have a ton of heart. I used to be incredibly shy, believe it or not. And in this mad, post-college time in my life, I have pushed myself beyond what I ever thought I could do in hopes of securing the MLB Fan Cave dream job, and that is what it means to be a Cardinal.

I have things to say about baseball, and I want them to be heard. For me, this isn’t just about getting to watch a ton of games or even making a smart career move. It’s about having a platform to keep baseball popular and embody the female fan base. Of course, doing that and all the while entertaining is a must!

If you want a fan different from any other, then I’m your girl! No matter what happens from here, it has been one crazy ride and I’ve loved every minute of it.
