Scouting for Food bag drop-off

Scouting for Food is the largest one-day food drive in the Boy Scouts of America. Started in 1985 here in the St. Louis area, Scouting for Food has expanded to other councils across the country. Did you know more than 43 million items have been collected since 1985? Each year, our Scouts, leaders and parents collect approximately two million items that will serve approximately 500 pantries within the Greater St. Louis Area Council. This food will meet a four-month demand for food in our area.

Boy Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs throughout the Eureka & Wildwood areas will be hanging a scouting for food bag on your front door on Sat., Nov. 12.  Any non-perishable food donated in these bags go to local food pantries in Eureka and Wildwood. 

The Perfect Scouting for Food Bag - With so many canned food options on the store shelves, what items are best to donate to food drives such as Scouting for Food?

Answer:

2 cans of hearty soup, stew or chili

2 cans of tuna, chicken, salmon or luncheon meat

1 can of fruit

1 can of 100 percent pure fruit juice

1 can of vegetables

1 can of tomato or pasta sauce

1 canned meal

1 can of beans

1 can of evaporated milk
