The Latest On Eureka Road Improvement

See who registered a major complaint about the Forby Road job. Donald Trump's speech was long-winded but worth a listen.

As Missouri legislators near adjournment, we keep hearing of cuts in many areas of government, which includes MoDOT without doing any forward-looking at the condemned Times Beach-Route 66 bridge.

Fortunately Eureka finally got around to letting bids on the North Street/Forby Road improvement.  Most of the new light poles have been placed. This week, movement of more than 10,000 cubic yards of fill began, with most of it going right past my home on North Street.

Monday and Tuesday had some heartaches as in using my old drive to carry those huge dump trucks, soon made it collapse.  An early procedure was to haul the loads to the low spot on the fill area which soon resulted in the soft hill and field, causing trucks to be stuck. The big development today was that they changed the procedure and began to fill from the top down, using the plentiful rock to make a solid road bed and by this evening a nice SUV went down to inspect the progress where a day ago it was impassible. So rain should not delay them now.

In regard to our development, I do notice the inconvenience the work is causing local residents and travelers here, but they have handled it very well.

So, it seems that others learn by doing, as I am trying different means to be, as I am becoming known as, "The Old Blogger" across the land where more than 800 local Patch units are working.

Just before I started this, I read a letter from the East which had a link to a speech made by Donald Trump in Nashua, New Hampshire.  It was a bit long-winded, but well worth a listen as it laid out possibilities that might be the coming theme of the 2012 election.

On my way into my home I saw someone who evidently stopped by my front door to file a complaint, I imagine. I can only interpret the communication because I don't know cat talk, but over the years, we have become the home-away-from-home for several neighborhood cats as they love to come to my backyard to hunt our mice and get good exercise, so I figure the one on my deck today was a representative of the group to convey their objections to the loss of this habitat they enjoyed so much.

I will say in their behalf that in the five years in this house and more than 25 years next door, we have never had a mouse, so thank you kitty cats.
