North Street, Forby Road Update

Just in case readers are wondering how the new construction in Eureka is doing.

Things are moving ahead in Eureka with the North Street and Forby Road project.  The fence at Price Memorial has been removed. Removing fill from widening of the hill area on Forby has picked up pace after a few days of change, as several truckloads of pipe have been delivered to the site.

The pipe will be used to become the drainage for some wet weather springs along the right-of- way, which eventually will become the sidewalk or trail. Forby Road has been closed at the entrance to Price Memorial Nursing Home, so a close-up visual is not available.

As I sat at my office window, wondering what to have for a blog topic, I watched a large tandemn truck, loaded with fill, being pulled by a huge backhoe up to the future Roberta Lane and down to the fill area as they evidently had a problem. It also moved me to bring this update.

Much of the electric wire has been replaced on the new poles, and today, it looks like the new cable wiring is being installed, with the boom truck just now being used to install it at the pole directly across the street from my house.

Because the Forby Road traffic is now detoured, the workers have an easier task than before when Forby Estates was being served from this side. Right now at 1:43 p.m. on Wednesday, they are moving west to the next pole, so things are moving well.

Laclede Gas has completed their work on West North Street to Virginia Avenue, and most of the sidewalk from Meramec to the bridge over Clifty Creek has been completed.

It has been interesting to watch the skill of the workers doing the installation of the poles and wiring, with so far, little interference with traffic.  Soon, the moving of the telephone service and then the old poles will happen, and final grading will begin.

I did look out back and the dead truck is awaiting repair, so it can finish dumping the large load. The road and sidewalk will be a great improvement when completed.

Good luck to the contractors. I hope my earlier estimate of September for opening will be close to correct.
