Last Fish Fry of the Season for Sacred Heart

We'll have to wait until Lent next year for more fish frying.

Pleasant weather to end the fish fry season. I was in the cook shack, or block house, which has been the scene of cooking since 1957, according to a sign in the house. In the hour I observed, I was told that 1,640 pounds of fish had been cut to frying size, and will be processed for the final fry of the season.

The work was very well planned with one to two hour shifts of workers. Of course, the smell of the process seemed to promise a good meal in store for the nearly 3,000 dinners expected to be delivered. Years of experience on how to do the job and a well trained group of workers made the process seem easy and fulfilling to those involved.

The most important part was the frying itself as 7 minutes seems to be the right time to turn out the nice-looking and good-tasting meal that parishoners and friends have come to expect.

Many of the meals are eaten in the pleasant gymnasium where a variety of drinks and a wide choice of desserts were provided the users.

Sit-down dinners were provided earlier in the season, and I presume they were there again for the final. These are provided in the Father Dowling Hall.

The huge call for take-out orders was answered just off the walkway between the church and the school. One could pick out your dessert on the way in, and some orders were quite large in number. Again those doing the serving seem to enjoy the day as no problems came about.

So, congrats to the church for the good food and service in 2012.
