1,200 Tandem Truckloads Of Progress

Cats, now deer, are adding their footprints to new Forby Road paving; must be some moral there, someplace.

Forby Road in Eureka was shut down May 18, as warned on signs earlier. At this time, just as the Cardinals, there is a rain delay.  Since yesterday, Forby Road has a new look as the old surface is being removed to place the new paving from the entrance to Forby Road Estates to Meramec.

The content of the trucks moving the material changed from the rock base to the delivery of the old surface, which was ground up for removal.

The huge job of making the road that we used to call Dascher Hill wide enough for the sidewalk or trail, and new roadbed, is moving along also.  Something like 1,200 tandem truckloads of various kinds will need to be moved for the improvement.

The removal of all the trees necessary has been just about completed and most of the new utility poles are in place.  Soon the big job of moving the electric and telephone service  will start.  Laclede Gas has been on the job in places where it is needed.

The big change in the future will be on the old Weber tract that borders both streets. Dale Hicks had put the tract back together a few years ago, and the three to one slope down to the property had created a planning problem.

With the 10,000 or more cubic yards of fill in place, he says it will be the finest area in St. Louis County for development of housing. It will be nice to see after about five years of delay caused by economic conditions.

The entrance road, across from Enderbush will be Roberta Lane, named for my late wife who loved the area so much.  She died in August 2001, so my family is hoping the grading will be completed for the tenth anniversary of her passing.

I had mentioned in an earlier blog that our cats in the neighborhood seem to be concerned about the activity, and yesterday our local deer herd came past to put their footprints on it.  I remember that when Enderbush was being concreted, they went through new surface and the workers had to redo it.  Must be some moral there, someplace.

Happy traveling.
