Parent Seminar: The Blessing and Curse of Affluence

Living in the wealthiest society in history has its perks--access to healthy nutrition, fantastic education, enrichment through arts and entertainment, and health and safety as never seen before.  But could there be any pitfalls?  Thirty years of research is teaching us that good parenting can actually be more difficult for the affluent.  Come hear about this research with speaker Kara Douglass and share and brainstorm with others about how to be alert to the unique challenges of raising a child in an optimum environment like West County.

The event will be held at the Wildwood YMCA. It is free and open to the public; registration not required. Light lunch will be provided.

Kara Douglass is head of school at The Fulton School, a small, independent, preK through 12th grade school just 10 minutes west of Wildwood. Kara received her bachelor’s degree in English Literature and German Studies from Rice University and her master’s in Counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary. She is certified by the American Montessori Society. Kara serves on the Board of the Independent Schools of St. Louis and is a member of the Educational Advisory Committee for the Magic House. She lives in Labadie with her husband and their four children.
