Parent Seminar - Rethinking Education: Standards vs. Connection

How do you define a good education?  How do you define a good school?  Are the skills our children need today different than they were thirty years ago?  We believe education is about relationships and connections; it’s an art rather than a science; a dance rather than a formula. So it’s very difficult to figure out any great way to measure it.  In fact, it may be counter-productive.  Come discuss these issues and learn how you can encourage teachers and schools to engage your children and learn what you can do as a parent to encourage development of 21st century skills.

This event is held at the Wildwood YMCA (2641 Missouri 109, Grover, MO 63040). It is free and open to the public; registration not required. Light lunch will be provided.

Kara Douglass is head of school at The Fulton School, a small, independent, preK through 12th grade school just 10 minutes west of Wildwood. Kara received her bachelor’s degree in English Literature and German Studies from Rice University and her master’s in Counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary. She is certified by the American Montessori Society. Kara serves on the Board of the Independent Schools of St. Louis and is a member of the Educational Advisory Committee for the Magic House. She lives in Labadie with her husband and their four children.
