Whiz Kid: Look Who Has a Great Sense of Direction

When it comes to geography, local student Matt Look knows his way around, even at the state level now.

Matt Look, an eighth grade student at in Wildwood, competed in the 2011 Missouri Geographic Bee held at the University of Missouri, Columbia on April 1.

Look placed fourth in the state's competition.

As his school-level winner in March, he was deemed a semifinalist by the National Geographic Society for the 2011 Missouri Geographic Bee.  That qualified him for the competition after placing in the top 100 students in state on the qualifying test.

"Matt is an outstanding student with a passion for geography," said Rockwood Valley Middle teacher Allen Luensmann.  "He represented Rockwood Valley Middle well!"

Luensmann said Look was the first student in Rockwood Valley Middle history to advance to the state final competition without missing a question.

In May, winners of the state-level competitions will compete in the national finals for the opportunity to receive a $25,000 college scholarship, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
