Cilantro Recall In Effect

U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials are recalling Pacific-brand cilantro after a test was positive for salmonella. No illnesses have been reported but this cilantro was distributed in Missouri.

No customers have reported illnesses, but FDA representatives asked consumers to return cilantro bought between Nov. 16 and Dec. 10. The cilantro is packaged with "Pacific" on the twist tie and with the UPC number "33383 80104." The cilantro also comes in sleeves with the UPC number "40695 80104."

A Dierbergs' spokesperson said neither their stores or warehouse carries any Pacific cilantro.

The cilantro was distributed by Pacific International in Missouri, as well as in California, Arizona, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to FDA health experts. Healthy persons infected with aalmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
