All the Makings of Good Times and Happy Families

Take a break from TV, hang up the phone, ditch the digitals and head to Trout Lodge for some real fun.

For Dana Bachert of Wildwood, a getaway to Trout Lodge was perfect family time. “At first the boys couldn’t believe there were no TVs or phones,” Dana said. “But we loved it.” She found it amazing that everyone wanted to do (or at least be part of) the same activities together, and that everyone enjoyed them. That's probably not an easy feat for a family with a teen, elementary school student and preschooler. The Bacherts found more than enough to do with activities such as boating, horseback riding, climbing, ziplines, archery and crafts. Even music night was a hit with the whole family. The band got them up on their feet and the staff’s attempts to get everyone line dancing had them laughing. While at Trout Lodge, the Bacherts ran into two families, one with the grandparents too, who they knew from the Wildwood community. Scenic Trout Lodge (with Camp Lakewood) is less than 90 minutes from our area. Fees conveniently cover nearly everything: lodging, meals and most activities. You can go online at www.troutlodge.org or call 1-888-FUN-YMCA to book a family getaway. Check out the weekend themes for families.
