Za Oggi! Makes Stake in Take & Bake Pizza

A new pizza company just launched in Eureka. Its name is a toast to "Pizza Today!" and it's a whole new spin on St. Louis Style Pizza.

Za Oggi! owner Patrick Duncan started making dough to sell commercially when he was 12 years old. He owned his first pizza place by the time he was 17 years old. He and Za Oggi! manager Joseph Pullam have worked together in a variety of capacities, including a stint at . As self-professed "pizza-holics," they believe they know a thing or two about pizza. Now they're combining years of knowledge into a new venture that offers a different pie when it comes to St. Louis Style thin crust pizza.

Their strictly take and bake pizza enterprise is located at 91 Hilltop Village Center Drive in .

"We've already had lots of repeat business," said Pullam. He reasons that customers truly enjoy their proprietary crust and cheese, which is a creamy provel.

He said customers already are asking about delivery, but because they are based around being more of a "mom and pop operation," they are trying to keep the business' infrastructure simple. There is no dine-in or delivery currently planned.

"I live for pizza, I love pizza," said Pullam. "I often have pizza three meals a day, by first starting with bacon and eggs pizza for breakfast. A pizza has everything you need, all in one spot."

"Za" is short for pizza, and "oogi" means today in Italian.

Duncan and Pullam, South County residents, are blending what they learned about pizza creations from previous work experiences at Tony's, Zia's and Amici's. Pullam, who once was a Villa Ridge resident, said they selected Eureka to establish their new operation because they always have liked the Eureka-Pacific area. They also directly sell their pizzas to select South and North County grocery stores.

A medium 12-inch Za Oggi! cheese pizza sells for $6.99; each additional topping is 79 cents. A second pizza, of equal or less value, can be secured for $3.99. A large Za Oggi! cheese pizza is $7.99. An extra large pizza there costs $8.99. Click here for more Za Oggi! options.

To celebrate the opening of Za Oggi!, Duncan and Pullam are offering a special until Aug. 31: Buy any cheese pizza and get a choice of any three toppings free.

The hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and closed on Sunday.

Za Oggi! gift cards are available, and Pullam said they would like to work with schools and organizations for fundraisers.
