Restaurant Review Round-Up: Big Chief Roadhouse

See what people are saying about restaurants in the Eureka and Wildwood area.

This week's review round-up is grabbing a booth at Big Chief Roadhouse, located on Manchester Road in Wildwood.

Before we get to the reviews, here's a description of the establishment, courtesy of our directory

"No trip along what's left of U.S. Route 66 would be complete without a stop by Big Chief Roadhouse. Originally established in 1929 as part of the Big Chief Highway Hotel, Big Chief Roadhouse is one of the last remaining full-service restaurants in operation on the famed roadway. ... A heavy reliance on freshly made breads, sauces, locally sourced produce and in-house smoked meats dominates the beautifully presented dishes."

From Yelp:

Steve H gave it 4/5 stars: "This place is finally terrific! ... Beef brisket is outstanding whether consumed in the nachos, as a sandwich, on pizza....all are very good.  Had a good steak.  Excellent burgers.  Salmon was cooked to perfection.  Have had the toasted lasagna which is an interesting change.  Tasty but not what would bring me back."

Mark T. gave it 4/5 stars: "It's a bit out of the way for most, but the menu looks solid, the kid's are entertained with a game room, which I was pleased to see they were cleaning (although that could be done in off hours).  Had a very good Beef Brisket Horseshoe and the fried green bean appetizer was every bit as food as Table 3."

Kyle J. gave it 3/5 stars: "This restaurant has opened and closed more times than I can count. Went tonight, and had some really respectable food. Had a bit of an issue with one of our orders, but the manager took good care of us. Will return!"

From Urban Spoon

Shibumi didn't like it: "Over priced meals and an over reliance on prepackaged foods result in yet another loser for this building and location that should really work. Any possibility of ambiance is ruined by the lack of noise control in the layout and design. This place is way too noisy for a relaxing dinner!"

Andrea liked it: "We come here often and have yet to be disappointed. We have tried many dishes and each one is delicious. They make their own dressings, sauces, and smoke the meats on site. Not sure if previous bad reviews were just because of a bad day or new restaurant happenings, but we've never experienced the negative."
