New Pet Memorial Construction Progresses in Eureka

Builders of a new pet crematorium company broke ground along Fifth Street, and land preparation is under way. Owners from Illinois were just in town; said Eureka "seems like a great place to live and work."

The lot at 1631 West Fifth Street in Eureka looks vastly different these days. Hinsdale Animal Cemetery, owners of an animal crematorium in suburban Chicago along with a family from the Kansas City area operating a business called Rolling Acres Memory Gardens for Pets, are establishing a location in Eureka to provide the comprehensive services for local pet owners.

A Wildwood-based developer, Dale Hicks and Associates, is handling the design and construction.

Jon Remkus, with Hinsdale Animal Cemetery in Willowbrook, IL, said they have targeted getting the facility completed by July, weather-permitting.

Remkus, who was just in Eureka for the past few days, said everything is going well with the project. "The Hicks' family have been a joy to work with, and have kept us updated."

He said they got a better sense of Eureka by eating at The Original Fried Pie Shop and Super Smokers BBQ, as well as shopping at Dickey Bub. "We got the sense that Eureka is more of a true community rather than just a city. It seems like a great place to live and work."
