Wyman Center Rolls Out Orange Carpet Gala

Following on the heels of Sunday's Academy Awards and Oscars, a local organization will host a glitzy "orange carpet" affair rather than a red carpet one. The in will have its "Orange Carpet Gala: A Night at the Oscars" to celebrate the organization's work with young people in St. Louis. It is an evening of drinks, dinner and dancing.

The event will be 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on March 3 at the Four Seasons Hotel, 999 North Second St., St. Louis.

The cost is $200 per ticket, or $100 per ticket for young guests. Patron tickets are $400.

Wyman teen, Drew Mizell, will share his singing talent, and others have a fun surprise in store for attendees. The band providing music for dancing is Griffin and the Gargoyles.

“The Gala is integral to the success of Wyman’s mission,” stated Event Chair Amy Gill in an annoucement, citing that the goal is to raise more than $170,000.

Orange Carpet Gala sponsors include Ameren Missouri as the Presenting Sponsor; Sense Corp and Amy and Amrit Gill are the Academy Sponsors. 

For more than 110 years, Wyman staffers, supporters and volunteers have worked to positively impact the lives of young people from disadvantaged circumstances. Today, Wyman touches the lives of more than 1,900 local teens, according to the center's materials, helping them to navigate the divide between the world they know and the future they desire.

Proceeds from attending the March 3 gala will help them achieve their goal of reaching 5,000 local teens by 2014.

Wyman began as a camp to help kids get out of smoky, industrial cities and into the fresh air in the country. Since that beginning, staffers evolved their programs into efforts that resulted in big drops in teen pregnancies, fewer high school dropouts, and more college successes.
