While some West St. Louis County retailers offer pink products in support of breast cancer awareness year-round, it is always interesting to see what new and novel items spring up during October—especially for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Lori Willis, director of communications for Schnuck Markets, Inc., told Patch their stores' breast cancer awareness offerings vary each year, depending on what items are recommended by their vendors.
"We really enjoy drawing attention to breast cancer prevention by creating special packaging in support of our manufacturers," Willis said. "We have a strong health and wellness program at Schnucks, and want to make sure we also are sharing all our knowledge with customers and teammates."
Willis said Schnucks' teammates get extremely enthused about this time of year because nearly all of them have been touched in some way by breast cancer.
She said the "company's historians" not long ago reminded her that pink used to be one of the main colors of the grocery store chain. In fact, during the 1960s Schnucks' teammates wore pink uniforms, and the company offered Eagle stamps that also were pink.

Another spot that carries special breast cancer awareness products is located at West County Center in Des Peres. Since 2006, Pandora has been a proud partner with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Jewelry pieces specifically designed for the organization are available to increase awareness of breast cancer and help find cures, according to Pandora's website.
Pandora representatives pledged a minimum commitment of $1 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure from February 2011 through January 2013, with a portion of the proceeds from select charms, necklaces and pendants going to support the Komen for the Cure’s promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
