Eureka's Hannah Long Named Missouri's Track and Field Athlete of the Year

The Gatorade Girls Tack and Field Athlete of the Year for Missouri is only a sophomore at Eureka High School but has already won three individual state title. Congratulations, Hannah!

Eureka track and cross-country standout and three-time individual state champion Hannah Long has been named the 2012-2013 Gatorade Missouri Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year. 

The award is in recognition of her outstanding athletic talents, academic achievements and exemplary character, the Rockwood School District state in a press release.  

During her sophomore season at Eureka High School, Long won three individual state championships this spring and led the Wildcats to a 17th place finish as a team at the Class 4 state meet. She won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.06, the 1600-meter run in 4:49.53 and ran the opening leg for the 4x800-meter relay quartet that broke the tape in 9:21.01.

A 2013 First Team All-State selection, she was also a dual-event winner at the Kansas Relays.  Off the field, she maintains a 4.0 GPA, is a member of student council and volunteers locally on behalf of the Special Needs Soccer Association (SPENSA).

This is the 28th year for Gatorade to present this award to outstanding student-athletes, and Long is the third Gatorade Missouri Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year to be chosen from Eureka High School.

As a Gatorade Athlete of the Year, she will receive a trophy in recognition of her accomplishments and will be considered for the program’s national title.  You can find out more information here.
