On the Road with No Spare Tire

Auto manufacturers now are making spare tires an option. Fuel savings seem to trump safety standards of spare tires!

This month I took my grandfather to purchase a new car. After shopping around, and much research, he decided to purchase the new Hyundai Accent.

But when we arrived at the dealership, they had 2012 models instead of the 2011 model he researched.

Well, this was nice, he got a new design and a lot of car for the money. But it was missing one thing:  A Spare Tire!

After finding this out the next day, we went back to the dealer and tried to get a better understanding of what was going through their mind when they made this safety feature an option. We discovered the main reasons were due to weight in the car and lowering gas mileage — at least that's what they stated — and that they say a spare tire is rarely ever used anyway!
