Pernikoff Brothers Band Coming to Labadie Station Saturday

This indie-rock band was deemed one of St. Louis' Best Opening Acts of 2011. They play the outdoor concert at Labadie Station Saturday; gate opens at 5 p.m.

"The sound and energy coming off the stage from this power trio rivals bands twice their size…" said Matt Champion, KDXH St. Louis.

The Pernikoff Brothers band consists of area brothers—Tom and Rick—plus drummer and vocalist Dan Germain. Tom plays guitar and Rick plays bass; both provide vocals.

"One of the most challenging things about being a musician is embracing the vulnerability in it," said Tom.

In 2011, the Pernikoff Brothers released their self-produced debut album “On My Way.” It was named among the Top 10 CDs of 2011 in PlaybackSTL.

Among the musical influences they count as helping to shape their music are the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Motown. Rick's favorite Beatles' song is "Something;" Dan's favorite is "A Day in the Life," and Tom is partial to "In My Life."

They toured the United States, making appearances at places such as the Austin City Limits and CMJ & Sandestin Music Festivals. They opened for Tim Reynolds of the Dave Matthews Band, G. Love, Sugar Ray, Lukas Nelson and Toots & the Maytals. They also recently opened for Willie Nelson when he performed in St. Louis.

Tom said one of their most memorial times came after they played Lancaster, PA, in the summer of 2011. "It's a small town with a big Amish community. The main street had upright pianos outside on almost every block. After our show, we went from piano to piano playing acoustic versions of our songs right there on the street. People followed us from block to block. We gave 'em shakers and tamborines. They sang along to songs they didn't even know."

The Pernikoff Brothers will take the Labadie Station stage Saturday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. The gate opens at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 each. Picnic baskets and coolers are welcome. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.

"We're looking forward to giving them (the Labadie audience) something a little a different—a little unexpected," said Tom.

Eureka-Wildwood Patch reader Cody Long said the band just completed recording their second album. "It sounded like the producer and the studio was a phenominal scene for them," she said. "Their talent is remarkable and soul-filled for sure."

Long is owner of Labadie Station Art & Antiques, which is located in what used to be the historic Schultz’s General Store, located just 13 to 15 miles from west on Missouri Route 100 and Highway T.

The Pernikoff Brothers next head to Kansas City to perform Aug. 25.
