Eureka Football Mom Looks at Final Game Through a Lens

One local family has shared photos of EHS sports with others for the past seven years.

One photographer along the sidelines at Eureka's football final season game this Friday also bore the designated yellow corsage of a "senior football mom" on senior night.

Renay Casey, of Eureka, said it felt "weird" to be at the crossroads that comes with being the parent of a senior. Her 6-foot-5 son, Tyler, plays on Eureka's offensive and defensive lines.

She said the season finale was a bit sad because 95 to 98 percent of the current EHS football team players had played together since they were in fifth grade.  "This season just flew by, so there hasn't been much time to think about it all," she said.

She and her husband, Jay, have been shooting and sharing photos of Eureka sports for the past seven years on their website, ever since their older son started in sports.  They said they initially started the site to be able to post photos of their sons for relatives on both U.S. coasts.

Renay is a California native, while Jay hails from Boston.  In fact, her father flew in from California to join the family for Friday's game.

"Tonight [regarding the finality of senior night] hasn't really hit me yet," she said.  "But when Tyler is done with wrestling season this winter, I think it all will."
