Wildwoodian Snags First Trout of Season
Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan used a starter's pistol to officially usher in the trout season at Maramec Spring Thursday morning. A Wildwood resident reacted quickly, according to an article in The Rolla Daily News.
Within 5 minutes after the opening siren Thursday, resident Tina Morgner reeled in the first trout of the season at Maramec Spring Park in St. James, MO, per an article in The Rolla Daily News.
The article stated 1,023 trout tags were sold by noon at the park that day, with 843 purchased before the siren went off at 6:30 a.m.
St. James Chamber of Commerce officers held contests for the first fish, first limit, largest fish and largest limit for male, female and youth ages 15 and under. They also provide coffee and donuts to the early anglers.

Maramec Spring Park is privately owned and operated by The James Foundation. The park contains the fifth largest spring in Missouri.
Missouri Department of Conservation workers stock trout into the Spring Branch each day. Park fishermen are required to have a Missouri Fishing Permit and a Daily Trout Tag, which can be purchased at the Parks Company Store. Daily tags for adults cost $3 each; tags for children 15 years and younger is $2 each.
