Whiz Kids: LaSalle Springs Middle Larks (video)

Talented vocal students from LaSalle Springs Middle were evaluated this Saturday at the St. Louis Suburban Solo and Small Ensemble Festival.

Eighteen select vocalist students who attend LaSalle Springs Middle School participated in the St. Louis Suburban Solo and Small Ensemble Festival held Saturday at Holman Middle School in Bridgeton, MO.

Six eighth graders performed solos, while all participated in two different ensembles who were critiqued and rated by adjudicators.

"Performing in a small ensemble takes different skills than performing as part of a large choir, and I know we all learn from the adjudicators' comments," said choral teacher Valerie Waterman.

"I was impressed at how hard the girls worked to sing accurately and expressively together. It was also wonderful how they supported each other in their solo performances," said Waterman.

She said the festival enables students to learn from some of the best vocal music educators in the area.
