Whiz Kid: Engineer In The Making

One Wildwood teenager already has built up quite an impressive list of experiences and accomplishments. This summer he heads to a special Air Force camp in Colorado.

Adam Brown, of Wildwood, was selected to attend the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Summer Camp at the U.S. Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO. He is being sponsored by the St. Louis SAME Chapter.

Brown is the son of Patty and Paul Brown. He is a sophomore at in Wildwood.

He will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy Camp June 24-30.

Brown, a member of the MO 81st AFJROTC at Lafayette High, works equally hard at academics, sports, community service and Boy Scouts.

This year, he volunteered 10 hours for security detail at Scott Air Force Base. He also earned the Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War Award and served as the awards coordinator for a “Dining Out” program.

He participated in the school's Renaissance academics achievement program for the past two years.

Part of his community service time is devoted to making and taking treat plates to residents of Gambrill Gardens retirement home in Ellisville. He and other local volunteers have done so at Thanksgiving, Christmas and the past two Valentine Days, including visiting with the residents.  He also helped host a barbecue as well as an ice cream social for the men at Gambrill Gardens.

In addition, Brown helped collect and load sewing machines and fabric to be sent to Third World countries by The Container Project earlier this year. He is financially sponsoring a child in Kenya through Compassion International. He said he writes letters to that child.

Locally he recently cleared tornado damage at and had helped to pull fence posts and build a brick wall at the Wildwood- based location of Equine Assisted Therapy (E.A.T.).

Wrestling is Brown's chosen sport, and he just earned the Most Outstanding Junior Varsity wrestler award at Lafayette High.  He placed third at the Missouri State/Ozark Powerlifting and Benchpress Championships this year.

In Boy Scouts, Brown has achieved the high designation of Eagle rank, through which he still is active in a variety of ways.

This outstanding teenager also is a 2011 Gateway West Young Achiever.
