Pink Flamingos Strike Again

A traditional Eureka High School fundraiser provides surprises and fun for recipients of an unusual 'gift.' The first one already happened.

A yardful of pink flamingos may not stand out in southern states, but in Eureka, they stick out like a big, pink celebration!

It was only the second day of this school year when the first Eureka High School Class of 2014 "Flocking" happened! It came in timely fashion for Montana Miller's "Sweet Sixteen" birthday, reports her mother, Elizabeth Miller of Eureka.

Miller said for a nominal fee, people can "flock" their friends, neighbors, family, businesses, and co-workers in support of Eureka's Class of 2014. Funds raised each year by Eureka's sophomore classes go toward their senior celebration.

During some years, there also has been "flocking insurance," for which people pay a fee to ensure they do not wake up with long-legged pink birds in their front yards.
