Local Students Tour D.C.

A group of recently graduated eighth grade students from LaSalle Springs Middle School students flew to Washington, D.C., yesterday morning for a whirlwind tour of the nation's history.

Eleven local students were at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport at 4:30 a.m. yesterday morning with smiles on their faces, despite the early hour. They were all smiles because they flew to Washington, D.C., for a four-day tour.

Led by eighth grade history teacher at , Rhonda Kloeppel, the group will visit a variety of memorials, museums and monuments. This is her third year to accompany students to D.C.

Although chaperoned by Kloeppel, students paid their own expenses. The group was coordinated through the tour company, WorldStrides.

Yesterday the group stopped at the White House, as well as the Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial. They return to Wildwood and Eureka on Sunday.

The students will be freshman at in August.
