'Funds4Food' Benefits Eureka Pantry

Three local churches and Knights of Columbus members in Eureka held a Funds4Food event on Saturday, which included a car cruise, bike ride and concert. See how much pantry donation they raised.

Despite Saturday's heat from high temperatures, hundreds of area residents attended 'Funds4Food' Car Cruise, Bike Ride and Concert Benefit held at St. Mark's Church in Eureka. As previously reported in Eureka-Wildwood Patch, from the event will support . The pantry is open two days a week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the lower level lot at Eureka United Methodist Church.

Saturday's gathering was hosted by three area churches and a community leader organization:  , Eureka United Methodist Church, and Knights of Columbus.

The idea of this event started out being a bike ride to raise money for the Eureka Food Pantry by Mike McCartney, Gary Thurman, Wes Sir, Donnie Delmain, Jeff Bredhal and John Schosay. They indicated that as they planned the ride, it escalated into something much bigger. At this year's event, they raised nearly $5,000 to donate to the pantry. McCartney plans to present a check to the nonprofit food entity early next week.

The event kicked off at 1 p.m., with a 100-mile observation ride where motorcycle drivers were given a map of locations where they went to gather information and return. Twenty-eight motorcycle riders participated in this event. Mike Rock, of Eureka, placed first, and Brandi Alcorn, of Villa Ridge, took second place.

A car show was held all afternoon and evening, with a wide variety of 35 cars on display. This was a big crowd draw and popular event. Winners were as follows:

  • Overall Winner - Mark Winka, of Eureka, 1948 Chevy
  • First Place - Mandy Delmain, 1970 Challenger
  • Second Place - Bob Lowery, 1966 Ford
  • Third Place - Vincen Eisenreich, Model A Ford

Throughout the day, several vendors were available serving food, drinks, snow cones and more. representatives had cold wet towels for those who needed to cool off from the heat.

In the evening, the popular band SH-BOOM entertained a crowd of more than 100 supporters at this year's first-ever Funds4Food Benefit. Organizers said they hoped it will be an annual event.
