Merry Christmas from the NRA!

Merry Christmas from the NRA!

This was the message that appeared on my Facebook wall on Christmas Day. The message was reposted several times throughout the day by my NRA “liking” Facebook friends. I’m sure it was a very heartfelt and sincere greeting from the National Rifle Association.

I can only imagine how that greeting, if seen, would have touched the hearts and minds of the parents, siblings, grandparents, other family members and friends of the massacred twenty Sandy Hook 1st graders.

Indeed, it is hard to imagine how they may have felt about the NRA "Merry Christmas" greeting in the few days after the burden of watching the coffin containing the bullet-riddled body of their 6 or 7 year old child slowly and permanently lowered into the cold Connecticut ground.

I wonder if the NRA will repeat the greeting again next year and into the future?

I’m sure such a warm and generous annual Christmas gesture from the NRA will help soothe the pain and loss those Sandy Hook families will feel every single Christmas season for the rest of their lives.

Perhaps the NRA will even send real cards in the future. Wouldn't that be nice.

Maybe they will also send cards to the families of those lost in the massacres at Clackamas, Aurora, Tucson, Columbine, Oak Creek, Seattle, Tulsa, Oakland, Seal Beach, Carson City and all of the 61 different mass shootings that occurred in the US over the last 30 years – plus whatever new gun massacres that we are sure to have in 2013 and the years ahead.

That would be an awful lot of cards and postage though – fortunately NRA membership and revenue looks to be booming these days so they should have plenty of spare cash.

after all, how better to spread the Christmas message of Peace, Love and Joy then a greeting from association that protects the “Freedom” of access to military grade assault rifles and ammunition.

Merry Christmas indeed
