While you’re busy buying backpacks and packing pencils, you may not think that a self-defense session belongs on your back-to-school list. But if you have a girl between the ages of 8 and 15, a session such as this may be one of the most empowering and confidence-building experiences you can give to them.
And there's a free Self Defense for Girls session coming up on Aug. 18 at the Wildwood Y. In less than three hours, students will be taught how to be aware of their surroundings and how to avoid dangerous situations. They’ll also learn basic self-defense moves and techniques. The instructor will be a 17-year old local high school student who is also a third degree black belt. She is deeply passionate about self defense and wants to share with girls what she’s learned.
Her instructor, fourth degree black belt and Y Tae Kwon Do instructor Chuck Luntz, will be alongside her.
The free class will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Wildwood Family YMCA, 2641 Highway 109. Please reserve your spot by calling (636) 458-6636 or going online to ymcastlouis.org.
