Akin Suggests McCaskill Unladylike After Debate
Rep. Todd Akin questioned his opponent's debate behavior in an interview with the Kansas City Star.
Rep. Todd Akin has made another gaffe in his bid to unseat Sen. Claire McCaskill in November.
Akin announced on Monday that he was staying the race, despite weeks of negative coverage and the rejection of the National Republican party following his comments on Fox 2 regarding legitimate rape. On Thursday, in an interview with the Kansas City Star, Akin referred to his opponent as unladylike in her debate with him last week.
According to the story, Akin said:
"I think we have a very clear path to victory, and apparently Claire McCaskill thinks we do, too, because she was very aggressive at the debate, which was quite different than it was when she ran against Jim Talent,” Akin told the paper. “She had a confidence and was much more ladylike (in 2006), but in the debate on Friday she came out swinging, and I think that’s because she feels threatened."
The National Republican Senatorial Committee told Talking Points Memo that it declined to comment on the issue. Earlier this week, the group sent an email to supporters asking if it should support Akin and if it did, would they financially support him as well.
Editor's Note: A previous version of this story used the term "unladylike" in quotation marks in the headline and the description field. As the story itself states, Representative Akin drew contrasts between Senator McCaskill's 2006 campaign and 2012 when he said she was "much more ladylike (in 2006)." The implication is that the Akin campaign is suggesting his opponent was unladylike in their Friday debate, although that word was not used in a direct quote.
Patch apologizes for any confusion brought by the initial headline.

Based on that quote, Akin did NOT refer to his opponent as "unladylike". Do you not understand the proper use of quotation marks? He said she was "more ladylike" in the 2006 debates and that she was "aggressive" in the debate with him, but NEVER (according to the full quote) did he call her "unladylike", which didn't stop you from putting quotes around the word and claiming that he said it. Very poor journalism.

This morning, the Akin campaign released the following endorsement from singer, actor and writer Pat Boone: "I'm strongly supportive of Todd Akin for US Senator from Missouri. My ancestor Daniel Boone would be, too—he and Rebecca had 10 kids, definitely pro-life. Todd's opponent is resolutely of the "pro abortion" camp which championed, just last year, the "termination" of over 600,000 baby girls. Todd Akin will represent the true values of Missouri families."

How are you going to retract your grossly misleading headline in which you appear to directly quote the candidate? Your paper makes it seem he said something which is VERY different from he actually said. I'd like a response and a copy of the corrected article -- which I hope is just as prominent a headline as this misquote.

Instead of focusing on words, let's focus on deeds. FreedomWorks ranks Todd Akin's VOTING record at a 90%. Claire McCaskill's VOTING record at a 21%. Claire McCaskill has voted WITH President Obama and the liberal/progressive Democrats - 98% of the time. Let's stop being distracted by words and misleading headlines and let us start looking at voting records. In the final analysis, that is what counts.
Unless, of course, this is the American Idol version of politics.
Sensible? I think so

What is a FreedomWorks' "voting record"? Does is show anything other than their bias?
Let's analyze real voting records:
"From Jan 2001 to Sep 2012, Akin missed 431 of 8512 recorded or roll call votes, which is 5.0%." In the latest quarter, Akin missed 87.5% percent of his votes.
That's not a typo, he missed 87.5% of his votes when we were paying him to be at work (instead of showing his ignorance in front of TV cameras).
"From Jan 2007 to Sep 2012, McCaskill missed 44 of 1788 recorded or roll call votes, which is 2.0%," In the latest quarter, McCaskill missed 0 (no) votes.
Then there's Rep. Akin's legislative record. He sponsored 52 bills over the last 12 years. Of those, 3 have been signed into law. Each of the 3 names a specific post office building.
In half that time, Sen. McCaskill has sponsored 70 bills, including the "Stop Wasteful
Federal Bonuses and Conferences Act of 2012". She sponsored "repeal the provision of law that provides automatic pay adjustments for Members of Congress". Of those 70, 4 have been signed into law. One of those names a specific post office building. All 3 of the others had bipartisan support.

This is a DESPERATE attempt of the liberal media to paint a candidate incorrectly by putting words in their mouth which they did not say, or construing what they did say as something else entirely. Printing a "misquote" by anyone should be grounds for an apology to say the least.

Poor Todd, if he can't handle Claire being aggressive in a debate, how's he going to handle being in the Senate? In the House...how many bills did Akin pass? Seems he spent most of his time trying to get a bill passed to shove up every woman's uterus. He doesn't believe in any sort of abortion even in cases of rape or incest, then Mr. Akin shouldn't have one. But he's not going to tell my family what we should and should not do at horrible times in our lives. This guy doesn't represent Missouri values, he represents a sliver of Missouri values. They want him, join his church but I want someone who is looking out for other things, not creepily focused on his moral beliefs as if they should be mine. I don't like his.

If you believe young girls/men at age 14 should be engaged in pre-marital sex without any responsibilities to society, that All society should pay for lifestyles of their neighbors, than you would never understand why Akins still represents a majority of not only Missouri, But this country.
Just what does an abortion opponent have to do with the "moral" declines in this country.
Just what does a "woman rights" have to do with the economy of this country.
Same sex marriages are not good for "children", you don't need studies to prove that. Not ony Missouri, But this country needs Senators are are focused on "Family and Morals" because that is how America got to be a great country.
A Civilized Nation? Just how would you define it?
I'll bet A Senator Akin styled Missouri would get us Less unemployment, more respect for life. (AGE 0 TO AGE 100), and less medical costs.
McCaskill's Missouri would be just the opposite-- More single Mother's supported by an unaffordable Welfare role. Children who do not know their Fathers and hooked on Drugs. Abortions being the norm, rather than a Decision.
I'll take the AKIN mentality Missouri anytime.
You should go live in another country and stop trying to ruin this country.

No sir "woman" are not "swingers".
How many of you know that President Obama called our Navy men--
"CORPSE-MAN" (Pronounced Dead body "Corpse")
The President also said That he has indeed "visited all 57 states"
Is Lady-like more offensive than what our President uttered?
Calling a woman a LadyLike is now Verboten.
A "picayune" media with an agenda, I say.
Let's defeat "Senator McCaskill" , whatever (Whoever) she is.
She does not care about Missouri. She does not value the meaning of "marriage".
She has only a National Party agenda. She did not fight to keep "GOD" in the peoples Platform.
McCaskill will be a crucial vote for "Taxpayer supported Abortions" "Preference treatment to only Woman in America"
Any Catholic Man/Woman who would choose McCaskill over any contender is a "Hypocrite" to their Religion. Shocking to hear any Catholic woman condemn a man that tries to keep this country a "christian" oriented place to live.
Those same woman need to look at just what McCaskill stands for.
She stands for everything Good Christians would consider detrimental to "FAMILIES" as we once knew them.
She stands for acquiescence to low "morals" within our young kids in school.
She stands for free-sex with a only pill solutions & no responsibilty.
Catholics---This is not the Senator that should represent Missouri.
The media is suppressing reality. Don't fall for their agenda.

You know what seals the deal for me? The fact that McCaskill still supported Obamacare AFTER Proposition C, the Healthcare Freedom Act, passed with over 70% of the vote. Regardless of whether or not you support Obamacare, do you support a Senator, someone who is supposed to represent OUR view, disregarding such a strong message from the voters? I certainly don't.
Todd Akin was not my first choice in the primary, but I respect the fact that he stood against his party on some high-profile votes, including TARP, No Child Left Behind (what a mess!), and Medicare Part D. He doesn't simply "tow the party line" and I appreciate that!
Not too long ago, at one of her townhall meetings, McCaskill was foolish enough to say, "What? Don't you trust me???" to which the crowd gave a resounding "NO!!!!" After the way she has voted (98% party line if I'm not mistaken), I totally agree with that crowd.
For the record, I'm a huge tomboy and the term "ladylike" is not the least bit offensive to me. What a way to grasp at straws. My goodness.

Ben Bernanke has issued QE3 to eternity and beyond, thus devaluing the dollar. Rep. Akin has voted to audit the Federal Reserve. He was a co-sponsor of Ron Paul's Federal Reserve Bill. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d112:h.r.459:
Rep. Akin opposes Obamacare. 71% of Missouri voters opposed Obamacare.
Sen. McCaskill voted yes on the behemoth of a Farm Bill which contained massive food stamp expenditures - "Food stamps – formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – account for $768 billion of the bill’s ten-year total, or 79 percent of the Senate bill’s total funding. “In total, CBO estimates that enacting the [SNAP] provisions…would cost $768.2 billion,” The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said in a June estimate of the bill."
Frankly, I wish Sen. McCaskill would miss more votes.

Thank you! Real discussion of the issues!
Romney said (on "Meet the Press") that he'd throw out Obamacare but replace it with something. He's in a perfect position to tell us what that something is based on what he has learned in MA. But he doesn't. If he can't offer an alternative, I'll go with what we already have. It can evolve as needed, which is already happening.
As far as listening to the 71% goes, maybe Sen. McCaskill knows more about Obamacare than they do. If she reads Patch comments, she would see that.
And I can't believe that Rep. Akin pays any attention to his constituents. He acts on his conservative conscience whether it aligns with Missourians or not. The really scary thing is that he'd listen to nonsense, even from a single doctor (John Willke), because it supported his position. A leader must be able to separate good advice from bad.
Sen. Blunt voted for the Farm Bill. Should we throw him out in 2016? His statement, linked below, gives a few reasons why he voted for it: good for Missouri, cuts spending by $23 billion, and supports jobs that we want to keep in the country. I'm all for fixing things that are broken, but one step at a time. Especially when it comes to our food supply.

Are you referring to Medicare?
"An Intelligent senator would have not voted for stimulus that supported failed companies like solyndra."
She voted for Solyndra? You sure about that? The Solyndra loan represents less than 1.4% of the Department Of Energy loan program. It met all qualifications for the loan, and when silicon prices tanked the market for Solyndra's technology tanked. Solyndra is the *only* loan from that program to fail. To top it off, the Bush administration had tried to qualify the Solyndra loan provisionally before Obama took office. Stop repeating phrases from the radio and do some research.
"An Intelligent senator would not supported the MACT bill which will increase our energy bills and put coal out of business and millions out of jobs"
Why don't you throw in spontaneous abortions and the ascent of Satan? Your incredibly dour forecast is interesting for it's melodrama but hardly constitutes facts. The MACT bill is simply the introduction of new emissions standards that the coal and gas companies must meet. It's not going to be Armageddon, as you predict.
