Spring Rummage Sale Aids Tornado Recovery Efforts
Help yourself while helping Joplin, MO, tornado victims at this year's spring rummage sale at Eureka United Methodist Church this weekend, starting at 4 p.m. Thursday. New this year is recycling electronic devices.
A large selection of clothing, furniture, household items, appliances, books, toys, tools, and other items will be available this weekend at the annual spring rummage sale hosted by Eureka United Methodist Church (EUMC).
Sale hours are:
- Thursday, April 26, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Friday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All proceeds from this spring’s sale will go toward multiple EUMC middle school and high school youth group’s mission trips to Joplin, MO, this summer, said Tim Schulte, EUMC director of Youth and Discipleship Ministries.
New Service Offered This Year:
"We have partnered with one of the largest recyclers in the Midwest to help properly recycle electronic devices," said Schulte. "Many items, such as TVs and computer CRT screens, contain large amounts of lead, and are not accepted in local trash collection.
"Recycling these items can be a hassle and expensive! We are able to accept all of these items for half the cost of most recycling centers, and all of the proceeds from this recycling drive will be used to purchase building materials for the homes we will be rebuilding this summer in Joplin."
TVs can be recycled at the EUMC sale for a fee of $10, CRT screens for a fee of $5, and all other electronic devices for $1 to $3 each (printers, computers, laptops, phones, cell phones, just about any device that gets plugged in or uses batteries).
"We can accept these items from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. This is a great opportunity to safely and properly dispose of those items that are taking up valuable space in your garage, basement, attic, or office and to help rebuild homes and rebuild lives in Joplin," said Schulte.
