Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

See World's Smallest Horse Today

There's still time to get your picture taken with Thumbelina, whose owners claim she is the world's smallest horse. She will be available in Wildwood's Greensfelder Park between 11 a.m. and noon.

Nothing is wild in today's seven-card Horseback Poker Run, except the fun time to be had. All proceeds benefit the Missouri Emergency Response (MERS) Large Animal Rescue, a Wildwood-based nonprofit organization that services the St. Louis and Illinois region, fueled by volunteers.

Registration for the equine-based card game begins at 7:30 a.m., with the last contestants to be sent out to the activity stations at 9 a.m.

For those who do not have horses to ride, but would like to participate in this first-time fundraiser, a bake sale is available between 9 a.m. and noon. There also is a silent auction and raffle. A live fiddle band is providing entertainment.

Barbecue lunches can be purchased for $8 each.

Eureka-Wildwood Patch described the MERS organization and today's event in detail in a prior article this week:  Horseback Poker Benefits Rescue Group.

Stop by between 11 a.m. and noon, and Patch will take your photo with Thumbelina, the world's smallest horse.

The event will be anchored from the Mustang Shelter at Greensfelder Park, behind Six Flags Over St. Louis on Allenton Road.

Can't say enough about the event today! We were expecting up to 45 Riders in the event, we ended up with 83! (plus people who just showed up for lunch to support MERS). So, so many volunteers to be thankful for, from Fox Creek Veterinary Clinic, Ozark Ridge Riders, to several individuals. You all know who you are, and I thank you. This event could not have been successful as it was without the outpouring of the general public for showing up, and providing the huge show of support for MERS! There will ba lots of photos in the coming days on our web site: www.mersteam.org
THANK YOU!!

What a wonderful day. As first-time attendees at a function of this type, we were suprised to see how many horses and riders were there. Can't wait to see the Patch posting of all the photos taken with Thumbelina. Thanks Julie!
