A female Eureka athlete took first place in her age category in the country's largest triathlon on Sunday held in downtown Chicago. Way - to - go!
A Eureka resident, Susan Richmond, placed first in her age group in Sunday's Life Time Tri Chicago. She competed with women 50 to 54 years old.
Nearly 10,000 participants from across the country participated in the Life Time Tri Chicago, the largest U.S. triathlon, in downtown Chicago. The 30th annual event meshed amateur and professional athletes alike to swim, bike and run their way to the finish line with top contenders in 11 age groups.
Richmond's time was 2:34:31.
She was the only Missouri resident who won among the top three athletes of each of the 11 age groups, in an event predominantly won by Illinois athletes this year.
The Life Time Tri Chicago triathlon is part of a weekend-long series of events, and is available in the sprint or international distance. The Sprint distance consists of a 0.75-kilometer swim, a 22-kilometer bike and a 5-kilometer run. The International distance consists of a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40-kilometerbike and a 10-kilometer run. The Life Time Tri Chicago is the fifth event in the Race to the Toyota Cup Series.
