Rep. Tim Jones Receives 2012 Legislative Award
St. Louis Business Journal staff honors Missouri's Majority Floor Leader from Eureka for the third year in a row.
Missouri House Majority Floor Leader Tim Jones, R-Eureka, was among a dozen leaders recently recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal staff for efforts to promote economic development in St. Louis and throughout the state. This marks the third year in a row that Jones has received the award.
Jones was honored for his work during the 2012 session to create a better business climate in Missouri that promotes job growth.
During the 2012 session, Jones sponsored legislation to ensure co-employee liability cases are handled by the state’s workers’ compensation system rather than through civil lawsuits. He also sponsored several pieces of legislation to provide incentives to encourage new business startups and to attract large economic development projects to Missouri.
Both measures were approved by the House but failed to gain traction in the Senate. Jones said he hopes to address these issues again in the 2013 legislative session when he will serve as Speaker of the House.
“While we did not pass every bill I felt was important, I do think we took significant steps in the right direction to help promote job growth and turn our economy around,” said Jones in a statement regarding this award. “I will continue to advocate on behalf of the interests of St. Louis area businesses and businesses across the state. If we can create a climate where businesses can not only survive but thrive, we can provide the kind of good-paying jobs that the people of this area, as well as those around the state, need to support their families.”
