Mardi Growl to Attract Dog Lovers Sunday

Eureka's second annual Mardi Growl for dogs and "their human friends" is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, weather permitting. Come by the Patch booth for free giveaways, balloons and of course, dog treats.

Dog lovers can get in on special "Mardi Growl" action from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday in Eureka. The second annual Mardi Growl dog parade will be held in the Central Avenue/Old Town area, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Pet registration for $5 each starts at 12:30 p.m.

Celebrity judges will award prizes for:  three winners for Best in Show as well as a Pet/Owner look-a-like category.

Families of the first 100 dogs registered will get a special doggie bag filled with items from local businesses, including Eureka-Wildwood Patch. The event is co-sponsored by the Eureka Chamber of Commerce and city of Eureka.

After the parade, music entertainment and kid-friendly crafts will be available. Local restaurants will provide specialty food and drinks, such as:

Editor's Note:  The dogs and their friends will love a crowd in front of which to parade, so don't hesitate to attend even if you don't have a dog, or a dog that can accompany you. There will be plenty of Mardi Gras cuisine to try. Please note that the rainout date for this event is predetermined to be Feb. 26.

@georg: Take a peek at an article about one interesting dog that will be published at 6 p.m. tonight. A few photos have been posted today on the Eureka-Wildwood Patch Facebook page. And look for a couple of other articles with photos from the event.
