Managed Hunt Still in Effect

Be careful during holiday walks -- managed deer hunts are still under way.

Outdoor enthusiasts who plan to take advantage of holiday time off to get outside for exercise in Wildwood should be careful when walking the trails in nearby parks, such as Rockwoods Reservation, because the annual managed deer hunt is still under way.

The hunt across Rockwoods Range is archery only. It began Nov. 1 and will continue through Dec. 31.

The hunt is managed by Missouri Department of Conservation agents, who encourage hikers to wear bright clothing.

Hunters must remain 50 yards from the typical park boundaries, and must park their vehicles in designated areas. Hunters are not authorized by state officials to use or cross private property during the annual hunt, without landowners' permissions.

Questions about the managed hunt or participating hunters can be directed to Dan Cavanaugh, MDC resource technician, by email or calling 636-458-2236, extension 229.
