Lafayette High Violinist Competes in Showcase

Patrice Patton will play the violin as part of a bi-state metropolitan teen talent competition.

A Lafayette High School student will compete this weekend in the second annual St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase Competition that provides thousands of dollars in scholarships.

Patrice Patton, a violinist who goes to high school in Wildwood, has signed up to be part of the 119 acts in the competition. The preliminary rounds on March 10 and 11 will narrow the field down to about 30 acts. The final 12 will perform at The Fabulous Fox Theater on April 27. There will be no charge to attend the show that evening.

The first, second and third place winners earn $7,000, $5,000 or $3,000 in scholarships, respectively. Other universities and organizations, such as Lindenwood University or The Muny, are also offering scholarships and prizes.

The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation created this competition to showcase the St. Louis region’s most talented teens in the performing arts.  Student acts include singers, dancers, actors, musicians, comedians and circus arts performers.

Last year finalists showcased their talents at The Muny, Six Flags Over St. Louis, the Shakespeare Festival, Webster’s Art & Air Show and Dancing in the Street & First Night St. Louis in Grand Center.

Check back with Eureka-Wildwood Patch to see if Patton makes it on to the final rounds.

After publishing this article today, we learned two of the home-schooled students also competing in this event are from Wildwood: Caroline and Elizabeth Cordell, who are both violinists. Best of luck to all three of our local contestants.
