Eureka Chamber of Commerce president Joe Blanner and his 10-year-old son, Joseph, plan to head to Haiti this summer. They are working through a program at their church, Spring Hills Presbyterian Church in Byrnes Mill.
Spring Hills' church congregants donated a variety of merchandise to sell at the 6th annual Eureka Chamber of Commerce garage sale and swap meet to help raise funds for their church volunteers to assist a Eureka resident with a program he launched a couple of years ago: John Keane, the founder of The Keane Insurance Group, created the Haiti Orphan Project to help house, feed and educate the countless number of orphaned children in that impoverished nation.

Blanner said this July will be the first time their church will send volunteers to Haiti. He said seven to 10 volunteers may go, depending on funding.
"We'll have a chance to have a big impact on a lot of young children," he said. "And for that, we're grateful."
