Happy St. Patrick's Day

In the Wildwood and Eureka area, of course our dog companions also get into holiday celebrations. How about the green dipping sauce at Burger King this weekend? And are you ready for jigs?

A Patch roundup of interesting St. Patrick's Day activities and considerations was published Thursday: Get Your Irish Up With These St. Paddy's Day Events

Saint Patrick's Day celebrates Saint Patrick (386-493), the patron saint of Ireland. It is the national holiday of Ireland and celebrated worldwide by Irish people and those honoring the traditions and "luck of the Irish" by wearing green, drinking beer, celebrating with parades.

Following are a couple more fun, green-themed things to do locally.

Burger King in Eureka is giving away free fries with one-of-a-kind green Heinz dipping sauce this Saturday and Sunday. No purchase is necessary to receive the fries, but the sauce will be available only while supplies last. It's one fry (value size)/green sauce container per customer.

While cruising through fast food lanes this weekend, don't forget 'tis the season for "limited time only" green mint shamrock shakes at McDonald's restaurants.

A St. Pat's Day celebration at Stovall's Grove Rockhorse Saloon and Dance Hall starts at 3 p.m. Saturday in Wildwood. Corned beef and cabbage, Irish music and jigs will be featured. Admission is $10.

In honor of today's holiday, we'd like to award the best-sounding Irish business name awards to O'Reilly Auto Parts and O'Dell's Irish Pub & Grill, both located in Eureka.
