Fourth DWI Charge in Five Years Comes for Eureka Man After Traffic Stop

Eureka Police said the driver was swerving on Dreyer Avenue, and he told officers he "had a pint."

A Eureka man faces felony charges after police pulled his car over at Dreyer and Central avenues in Eureka.

Alan K. Grant, 51, of the 600 block of Legends View Drive in Eureka, was charged Feb. 11 with driving while intoxicated (DWI) as an aggravated offender, a class C felony. He has three previous DWI convictions.

Eureka Police said an officer pulled Grant’s car over at 11:10 p.m. July 23, after he saw his car swerving on Dryer Avenue. The officer said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol, and saw Grant’s eyes were watery and bloodshot.

Grant did poorly on a sobriety test and admitted he “had a pint,” according to a police report. A Breathalyzer test show Grant’s blood-alcohol content was at 0.234 percent.

Grant also was convicted of DWI in 2011, 2010 and 2008.

A warrant was served on Grant on Feb. 19. He posted 10 percent of a $20,000 bond, and was released the same day.
