Eureka Fire Protection District Named Best in State
Eureka Fire Protection District serves the communities of Eureka, Wildwood, Allenton, Hoene Springs, Crescent, Southwest St. Louis County, and Northern Jefferson County. It was named the best district out of the 442 existing in Missouri.
Eureka Fire Protection District (EFPD) was named as the Fire Department of the Year for 2012 at the Firefighters Association of Missouri (FFAM) annual convention held in Hannibal, MO, on April 25-27.
EFPD was recognized for outstanding service to taxpayers and residents through numerous service programs, safety and support programs for all members of the department and support for regional and statewide programs and trainings, according to EFPD Deputy Chief Randy Gabel.
Eureka Fire Chief Greg Brown and several EFPD members were at the convention to receive this prestigious award. This is the second time EFPD received this statewide designation; the last time they were recognized as the Fire Department of the Year was in 1999.
The Firefighters Association of Missouri is an organization with members from 442 fire departments and districts throughout Missouri. FFAM sponsors and promotes training for all firefighters, helps with legislative issues affecting Missouri firefighters, awards scholarships to firefighters in addition to providing other services. One of the most notable projects done yearly by FFAM is the Missouri State Fair Fire Department, which is largely made up of an all-volunteer force throughout the Fair.
EFPD leaders are planning a presentation at the group's next board of directors meeting, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Station No. 1, 4849 Highway 109.
