District Champions: Eureka High School Varsity Football Season Ends with 9-1 Record

EHS Wildcats beat Oakville Tigers 47-0 on Friday. Two top teams pair up again Nov. 5 for sectionals.

Jumping ahead came quickly for the Eureka High School varsity football team during Friday's game against Oakville High, and the Wildcats just kept increasing the lead throughout the evening until they recorded an impressive 47-0 win.

Eureka finished the season with a 9-1 record, and advances to the sectional playoffs to face Lindbergh High this Friday night on Eureka's field, starting at 7 p.m.  Lindbergh Flyer's season record is 8-2, with them being the only team this season that beat Eureka 42-28.

(For the upcoming playoff schedule, please consult the MSHSAA document included with this article.)

With 7:20 minutes left in the first quarter, Eureka posted its first score with a 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sean Strehl to wide receiver Aaron Schnurchbusch, capped by an extra point.

Strehl then leapt over the 1-yard line to put the Wildcats on top 14-0 with 3:43 minutes left.

Wide receiver Andy McNeel caught a corresponding 13-yard touchdown pass from Strehl, putting the Wildcats 21-0 over the Tigers, with 9:31 minutes to go in the first half.

Defensive back Richie Rhoades picked off an Oakville Tigers' pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown, with 5:24 minutes left in the half.  The score at halftime remained EHS 28-0, as the KTVI Channel 2's Sky Fox helicopter hovered above.

A 60-yard touchdown pass from Strehl to Chase Bollinger made the score 35-0 for Eureka, with 9:34 minutes left in the third quarter.

Another 26-yard touchdown pass from Strehl to Bollinger put the score 41-0 in favor of the Wildcats, with 6:08 minutes left in the third quarter. But the extra-point kick was no good.

Running back Andrew Stevens scored a touchdown with 11:46 minutes left in the fourth quarter, but the kick was blocked, making the score 47-0.  And that's where the game score ended, along the EHS regular season.
