Selecting a bakery item that also supports breast cancer research is possible through a popular Pink Ribbon Bagel that just became available again this week at Saint Louis Bread Co.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of Saint Louis Bread Co. offering the company's special Pink Ribbon Bagels during October as a way to raise funds for breast cancer research. A portion of proceeds from the specialty bagels sold in the company's bakery-cafes during this month are donated to the Siteman Cancer Center.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hence the bagel's tie to the color pink and the ribbon shape.
Pink Ribbon Bagels are made with cherry chips, dried cherries and cranberries, honey and brown sugar. They have a subtle vanilla flavor.
New this year is the cafes' special Tuesday promotion of $7.49 bagels per dozen, which includes the pink ribbon option.
Also new are a few individual, 2-ounce cream cheese selections, such as New York cheesecake and wild blueberry. Reduced fat cream cheeses also are available.
Chris Gandlmayr, manager at the Saint Louis Bread Co. in Wildwood, said the Pink Ribbon Bagels were so popular last year, they expect a larger turnout of customers searching for them this year.
