It was a British Invasion all over again as the band BritBeat performed their Beatles Anthology show for audiences at Wildwood Town Center Plaza Friday evening. Everything from their look, sound, mannerisms, British accents and costuming to their instrumentation and vocal harmonies authentically recreated the Beatles so closely one might feel like one traveled back in time to the 1960s.

The concert featured music and costuming through the Beatles’ eras of music, including Ed Sullivan, Sargent Pepper and Abbey Road. Vintage instrument changes added visual and audible interest to their performance.

Complimentary kettle corn, shaved ice treats, water and soft drinks were provided to all who attended. Hot dogs and bags of chips were given away on a first come, first served basis.

“We served 800 hot dogs last time (last concert) and we went through them in about one hour,” said Barb Philipps.

This family-friendly event, a part of the Wildwood Summer Concert Series at Town Center Plaza, was a free event. Everyone brought their own lawn chairs, blankets, coolers and snacks.

Regardless of the hot summer night, young and old danced to the sounds of the Fab Four.

Remaining concerts on the 2012 Concert calendar:

  1. July 20—Roland Johnson and the Voo Doo Blues Band, start time: 6:45 p.m.
  2. August 10—Fanfare (part of the city’s Back-to-School Party), start time: 6 p.m.

I was cooking hot dogs but still had a great time...nothing gets community together better than music.
