Annual Smoke Detector Day Helps

Eureka Fire Protection District's firefighters conduct 23rd annual Smoke Detector Day in conjunction with daylight-saving time.

More Eureka area homes now have better fire prevention practices in place, thanks to Saturday's . 

"We had a great day on Saturday," said Eureka Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Scott Mullins.

Mullins said firefighters visited 200 homes, installed four smoke detectors, and replaced 15 batteries.

"That gives us total numbers for all 23 [annual] Smoke Detector Days of 2,461 homes visited, 403 smoke detectors installed and 825 batteries replaced," he said.
