Students Can Vote for Missouri Book Awards

The Missouri Association of School Librarians promotes reading for all students in our state. It sponsors four different awards: the Show Me Award for children Pre-K - 3, the Mark Twain for students in grades 3-6, the Truman Award for grades 5-8, and the Gateway Readers for grades 9-12.

Students who have read at least four of the titles on the nominee list have the opportunity to vote for the winner each year. Many of these books are favorites for years!

At LaSalle, we encourage 6th grade students to participate in the Mark Twain contest and the Truman contest. All seventh and eighth graders are encouraged to vote for their favorite Truman Award nominee.

Voting is done in the spring and winners are announced before the end of the school year. Since these books are very popular it is a good idea to put a "hold" on any title you'd like to read!

You can find a link to the Missouri Book Awards on the district website under the Students tab then "Research & Homework Help."
